Can someone observing you know that you are having a flashback?

I was talking to my counselor. He and I were both quiet for a moment as he wrote down some notes. I was gazing out the window. I do not know how for long, but I was thinking about an incident that occurred when I was younger. Very quietly he said "Melanie. Do you have flashbacks?" It took him a minute to get my attention.
Is there something about your appearance that he could tell I was flashing back? Or was it just a question?
Answer:
normally its a blank stare that is casted across your face which acknowledges that you or someone is having a flashback. most of the time a flashback is cast when a person such as your self sees something that might have caught your eye and out of no where made you think of a memory or incident that occurred during some time in your life..also some things can bring about duja vu which is also common in these situations.. your counselor probably notice that you weren't in a state of being any where near earth and that's probably why he asked the question..
a blank stare in your eyes is a dead give away. i do it all the time. i just chalk it up to being a heavy thinker.
I think it must be that they can see it. I have them and hubby says I get quiet and have a distant look.
it was just a question. but most people will easily figure it out that your thinking of something if your looking somewhere or staring at something for so long. specialy if your so quiet, like day dreaming or trying to recall something.
